Angels 9th in Western Nationals

The Marin Blue Angels 14U fast pitch Softball team finished 9th in the ASA Western National Championship tournament in Clovis.  The field consisted of 77 teams from across the western United States and Canada .

Three pitchers, Annie Boyer , Kim Scarsella, and McKenna Silva carried the load giving up only 2 runs per game on average, with relief support from pitchers Olivia Trombadore and Maddie Rubin.

The offense was led by 6 players who combined to hit over .350 including Megan Atkinson, Emily Banks, Annie Boyer , Cori Lanigan, Lindsey Matteo and Kim Scarsella.  The team scored 42 runs and gave up only 16.

Facing elimination in their 5th game (4th game of the day in 100 degree heat!) and down 4-1, the Blue Angels’ defense kick-started a come-back with 2 perfectly executed double plays. In the bottom of the 6th the offense rallied to take the lead.  A sequence of 2 singles, 2 doubles, and aggressive base running scored the runs necessary to win a come-from-behind thriller. Emily Banks, Kim Scarsella, Cori Lanigan, Megan Atkinson and Lindsey Matteo were key in the comeback.

Team defense was also a major factor in the team’s success.  Allison Ng, Cassie Howard and Makenna Guasco all contributed to the Blue Angel overall success.
